Here are four popular golf courses in Alabama:

1. Shoal Creek. Opened in 1977, this course has hosted several golf competitions, including the 1986 US Amateur Championship and 2008 US Junior Amateur Championship. Designed by Jack Nicklaus, the course challenges golfers with ponds and creeks.

2. Capitol Hill Golf. “The Judge” is one of three courses at this golf club in Prattville. Running along the shore of the Alabama River, The Judge consists of 14 holes that weave through waterways and islands.

3. Old Overton. Located in Vestavia Hills, this course was developed in 1993. Jerry Pate served as the headline architect. In collaboration with Tom Fazio, Pate created a unique course complete with rock wall flanks, sand-protected greens, and wooded hills.

4. Kiva Dunes. A “must-play” course for visitors to the Gulf Coast, Kiva Dunes arose from the shared love of links golf by developer Jim Edgemon and architect Jerry Pate. The course opened in 1995.
